Kachi Chan is an artist and researcher who navigates the intersection between the physical and digital worlds. His work manifests through digital realities, animation, and robotics, with a primary focus on employing cultural informatics to artistically reinterpret social issues and amplify lesser-known perspectives within various systems.
Kachi was awarded the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence, which enabled him to pursue postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art and the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London.
His research-driven artistry has garnered significant recognition, including an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica, the Bartlett Medal, the OPPO Renovators Creativity Award, and the Arts Council England Project Grant. Kachi's work has been showcased at prestigious events/venues such as the Ars Electronica, SXSW, ISEA, SIGGRAPH, Asia Culture Center and the London Design Festival.
Since 2019, Kachi has been collaborating with artist Wingshan Wong as part of an artist duo. Their research focuses on speculative narratives that reimagine and reinterpret cultural heritage, with ongoing projects including Barter Archive, Foreseen, and Foreseen 2099. Recently, they were invited to the Asia Culture Center as artists-in-residence to develop the project Hello! World Home!.
Academically, Kachi has published in SIGGRAPH, ISEA, ICAS and KAMC. Currently Kachi serves as an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, where he teaches theories, and creative practices within media art.
